Sep 2009 - Council seeks employers to shape skills agenda
Ref: PR2327
Date: 11/09/2009
Wakefield Council is seeking local employers for a new partnership to help shape the skills and employment agenda across the Wakefield district as part of the fightback against the recession.
Despite the large and growing number of qualified people in the district, skills are still below the regional and national average.
The new Employer Forum will bring local employers together with the Council to set the priorities for the skills and employment system in Wakefield.
Forum members will set the agenda in relation to skills, work and development within the district, and will have the chance to influence and contribute to the long term development of learning and skills at district and regional level.
They will also look at the development of current workforce skills development, improving current recruitment and retention of employees and improving business efficiency which is critical in cutting costs and becoming more competitive.
Andy Wallhead, the Council’s Corporate Directorate for Regeneration said: “We are looking for people who have experience at executive or board level and are committed to the regeneration of the district.”
Anyone interested in applying to be one of this group of companies to help shape skills development across the district should contact Catherine Lunn on 01924 306826 or via email at Cllunn@wakefield.gov.uk
Expressions of interest must be received by 21st September 2009. Membership of the forum is voluntary.
