Oct 09 - Neighbourhood Walk Welcomed

Friday 16th October 2009

A neighbourhood walk carried out by Pontefract and Knottingley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has been welcomed by local residents.

Officers were out on patrol in the Chequerfield area on Saturday 10th October together with West Yorkshire Fire Service’s Arson Task Force Officer Donna Wagner, Local Councillor Geoff Walsh and Environmental Health Officer Alan Goodman.

The multi-agency walk was organised to encourage a joint approach to community issues by working together in identifying and dealing with local problems.

Beginning at the junction of Friarwood Lane and Grove Road outside Pontefract General Infirmary the walkers then moved on towards the Community Centre at the Circle and finally Baghill shops.

Sgt Paul Sullivan of Pontefract and Knottingley NPT who led the walk said:

"We have been a little disappointed with the low attendance at the Police and Community Together (PACT) Meetings. I understand that not everyone can make the meetings or check out the updates on our web pages so I wanted to catch people who were out and about in the area."

"The benefit of inviting our partners along meant that we could tackle issues on different levels. I believe it was a real success and we all came away with a lot of ideas on how we can improve the area."

If you want to find out more about the walk you can find details on the NPT website or attend the next PACT meeting at St Mary’s Community Centre at 6:00pm on Thursday 29th October 2009.
