Dec 09 - Crime message hits the road
Ref: PR 2439
Date: 08/12/2009
Success in driving down crime across the Wakefield District is being marked with a special campaign.
Forty buses travelling around the district this month feature the message ‘Crime is Down AcrossThe Wakefield District – Let’s Keep It That Way’ reflecting a 15 per cent drop in crime this year.
The buses are covering a number of routes and pass through local bus stations. The message is reinforced on plasma screen displays inside Wakefield Bus Station which will also feature crime prevention advice and how to contact police with information about those suspected of being involved in criminal activity.
The campaign has been launched by Wakefield Together – the local strategic partnership for the Wakefield district which brings together key agencies in the district which deliver the many services and activities that affect the lives of people who live, work, visit and do business in the area.
Chief Superintendent Marc Callaghan, Wakefield District Police Divisional Commander, said: “We are working hard to reduce crime across the Wakefield district and make people feel safe. We hope this campaign will raise awareness of the work we are doing with our partners.
“Key to our success is our partnership with the public. We are not complacent and we will continue to work hard to tackle crime. We need the public’s help and would urge them to contact us if they have any information about criminal activity to contact us.”
Cllr Peter Box, Chair of Wakefield Together said: “This campaign helps to raise awareness of how we are driving down crime, which is making this district safer for everyone.”
Anyone with information about suspected criminal activity is asked to ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
