Feb 10 - Wakefield Together hits the road

Ref: PR 2498
Date: 01/02/2010

A number of outside road shows will take place across the district with a view to talking to citizens about issues that matter to them.

Although the partnership recognises that aspects such as the prevalence of crime is continuing to decrease, the partnership - consisting of the Council, Police, Fire Service, NHS and other partners - is keen to help ensure citizens views are heard and that it continues to tackle the issues that citizens say need addressing.

Chairperson of Wakefield Together and Leader of Wakefield Council Cllr Peter Box commented: "Wakefield Together continues to build on helping make neighbourhoods safer, cleaner and greener, develop new opportunities to enhance skills and improve life expectancy, to do this however we it is essential we continue to engage with our citizens.

"We are already talking to citizens about developing a blueprint for the district for the next 10 years and these outside mobile roadshows will be the start of many throughout the District which we plan to continue at a neighbourhood level in the future.

"Sometimes, we won’t be able to do everything that people want us to do, but I’m determined that as we move forward everyone will have the chance to have their say. There is a lot going on across the district, but there’s always more to do and we value your views to help us shape the future and I encourage citizens and those working in the district to take part in the roadshows to have their say whenever possible."

The events will take place as follows:

  • Ossett Precinct – Market Day – Friday February 5
  • Hemsworth Market Place – Tuesday February 16
  • Wakefield City Centre Precinct – Saturday February 20
