Ref: PR 2934
Date: 11/03/2011

The new Wakefield Enterprise Partnership launched by Wakefield Council is looking for business leaders to help create an innovative, private sector-led approach to boost the local economy and promote businesses and inward investment.

Wakefield Council Leader, Cllr Peter Box is urging private sector business leaders to get involved in driving through economic growth in the district.

He said: “The private sector will lead the new partnership to ensure that we are even more responsive to local economic needs.

“Working with local businesses is the key to keeping our district on track and we are looking for local business leaders with a clear vision of economic growth to shape and influence the district’s future.”

Wakefield Council is seeking a Chair and six business leaders from a range of sectors to join senior figures from the public sector on the LEP Board.

Cllr Box added: ”This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our local economy and promote the interests of the district within the city region and beyond.”

Wakefield is already part of the Leeds City Region’s Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the newly-created Wakefield Enterprise Partnership will work alongside the LEP to ensure a common aim of building a prosperous and sustainable economy.

Applications close on March 21. For details on how to apply, call the Wakefield Council contact centre on 0845 8 506 506.
