June 2011 - Have your say about your neighbourhood

Ref: PR 3055
Date: 14/06/2011

The Wakefield Together Partnership will hold its next round of area forums for citizens and those who work in the District in June and July.

These area-based forums, which take place three times a year across the District, are a way for people to have their say about keeping their neighbourhood a place where they want to continue to live and be proud of.

The Partnership established the forums in seven areas across the district in November as a platform for service providers such as the Council, Police, Fire Service, NHS and Wakefield and District Housing to consult with citizens, councillors, voluntary and community groups about delivering services and issues that matter to them. The areas are Castleford, Pontefract & Knottingley, South East, Normanton & Featherstone, Wakefield Central, Wakefield North West and Wakefield Rural.

People attending these next forums will have the opportunity to meet their neighbourhood coordinator who is responsible for their area and find out what local community groups have been doing in their local area.   People can also find out what the Partnership did about the things people said regarding issues raised at previous forums.

Cllr Maureen Cummings, Wakefield Council's Cabinet member for Communities and the Environment said: "We all want to reside in a neighbourhood where we can be proud to live and work. I would like to encourage people to attend their local area forum to find out what is happening in their neighbourhood and share their views about what they feel is important’’.

Superintendent Pat Casserly, of Wakefield District Police, said: "This is an excellent opportunity to bring together people who live and work in an area to make a real difference. I would encourage local residents to come along to the meetings and talk to us about the issues that matter to them and how we can all work together to tackle them."

The dates and times of the forums are:

  • 22 June, Town Hall, Wakefield, 6.30-8.30pm
  • 29 June, The Grove, South Kirby, 6.30 – 8.30pm
  • 30 June, Town Hall, Knottingley, 6.30 – 8.30pm
