Healthier Communities Partnership

The work of the Healthier Communities Partnership is shaped by the health priorities set out in Developing Knowledge Communities.  The work of the Partnership aligns closely with that of the NHS Wakefield District

The main objectives of the Partnership is to

  • improve health in the District
  • increase life expectancy
  • reduce health inequalities

In order to achieve its objectives, it aims to

  • reduce smoking
  • reduce the impact of alcohol on health
  • lower premature mortality rates for cancer and circulatory diseases
  • increase participation in sport and exercise
  • reduce obesity
  • improve mental health
  • improve the wellbeing of older people.

Central to the Partnership’s terms of reference is an agreement to promote the principles of engagement, cohesion and sustainability through increasing the capacity and involvement of the voluntary sector. This includes promoting the health, wellbeing and engagement of children and placing culture at the heart of its work.
